How do I complete a CdA test?

Field Testing

The myWindsock field testing functions are designed to make this process as easy as possible and has the ability to pick a winner in your A-B testing.

  • Each loop is automatically detected
  • The CdA for each loop is calculated
  • Changes in test conditions are detected, no need for separate ride files
  • An average test CdA is calculated for each test run

Tests are detected and poor loops removed.

Testing using Loops

  1. Choose a location that you can safely complete multiple loops without changing position or having to use your brakes. The loop can be any size, choose a loop that you can complete at least 5 time per test run.
  2. Pick a day in where wind speeds are low and in particular low gusts. myWindsock factors in wind speeds adjusted for wind shear/gradient however gusts will affect the quality of your results. Better a high average and low gusts than low average and high gusts.
  3. Decide what you are testing and change only that one variable between tests.
  4. Complete a test run of at least 5 loops. By default only the middle 3 loops of a 5 run test will be counted.
  5. Stop. (This records the test)
  6. Do not change anything. Repeat the same test.
  7. Stop.
  8. Make the change.
  9. Repeat the loop again, at least 5 times.
  10. Stop.
  11. Repeat the current test
  12. Stop.
  13. Reverse your change to original configuration
  14. Complete at least 5 loops
